Feeding your Siberian

Feeding your Siberian- begins with knowing your dog...
Pet Siberian vs Working Siberian

Some people say... Siberian Huskies are a high maintenance breed and are very hard to train.
I know differently. There are a variety of reasons for out of control behavior - could be lack of training, there could be unknown allergies but in most cases it is food related and most commonly due to incorrect diet which leads to severe weight gain due to improper exercise from the incorrect advice taken.

The Siberian Husky has one of the most efficient metabolisms in the dog world. It can survive and prosper on less food than almost any other breed.

Even though a Siberian Husky is a working dog... If he/she is
not being worked and I mean towards long distance runs, training hard everyday not only do they not need a high protein high energy food...  this can actually cause serious problems. A dog on such food is producing prodigious amounts of energy. Without the outlet of hard running sled work in cold conditions, the energy tends to make your Siberian hyper and uncontrollable. It is like drinking 2 Lg. double doubles from Timmy's just before bedtime and then wondering why you cannot get to sleep.

  If your Siberian Husky is
not working hard in harness, he/she will be very adequately nourished on any good "Adult Maintenance " quality food. Start with a "chicken" base 26% protein and 16% fat this is all your pet Siberian needs unless you are into high performance training and most pets do not get this. A walk twice a day for a hour, ski-joring, hiking even recreational sled fun is not good enough for those 30% more protein foods.

There are many reason's for "
uncontrollable" Siberian Huskies, start by learning more regarding what you are actually feeding your pet Siberian and how the food is really effecting your dog could very well be the problem and with simple calorie adjustments your dog will become perfectly "controllable". Once their energy levels have been balanced to their activity levels by feeding them a lower protein food and seeing them at a proper weight for their activity level. If your Siberian screams and inhales his food like he is not getting enough and you have " taken your Breeders advice" This behavior is due to the "sled dog trait " coming out in the working Siberian lines. Because they were bred to fuel and run the only thing they love best, the screaming is excitement for something they like and not because they are starving. As a rule, most Siberians are very vocal and usually have a lot say... especially for the things they love.

My advice
is to listen to your Breeder and feed what your Breeder recommends and learn how to raise your Siberian like the Champion within. I mean... who knows best for their  " line " and the  "type " of Siberian Husky they have created and produced and let your Siberian speak for itself. With all this in mind, you have to know... every good knowledgeable experienced Breeder has tricks to the trade. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
